The University awarded a contract for research services to Prairie Education Research Cooperative, Springfield, IL, for $60,000.
SIU School of Medicine needs to contract with Prairie Education Research Cooperative (PERC) for clinical trial research services for appoximately a five year term through June 30, 2010. A physician was awarded a grant for a clinical trial for a surgical treatment for off-pump repair of the mitral valve while he was employed at PERC. He joined the faculty as an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at SIU School of Medicine shortly thereafter. Initial study materials and preparation had been completed by PERC. Although the grant award has been assigned to the School, the expertise of the cardiologists and staff at PERC is necessary to complete the patient screening, data collection and analysis required by the reseach protocol. It is not economically feasible to transfer the study in house without hiring staff with expertise in this type of research and providing compensation to PERC for initial start up costs.
