The University awarded a contract for an automated laboratory liquid handling system.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which items available on the spot market or at discounted prices were available for a limited time such that sound business judgment mandated a purchase immediately to take advantage of the availability and price.
This is for the purchase of a previously-owned liquid handling automation system to support the SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 testing program across the State of Illinois. In addition to the previously-owned system requiring a quick purchase, this purchase will also protect the health and safety of Illinois residents once the labs are fully functioning and testing for COVID-19. This system will increase the speed and accuracy of COVID-19 tests being performed. For additional information, see the attached emergency purchase statement.
