The University awarded a contract for ortho prosthesis to Tornier, Inc., Stafford, TX, for an estimated $360,000.
The purchase is for ortho prosthesis used in orthopedic shoulder and elbow surgeries.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent. This is a sole source because the ortho prosthesis is patented, and no other vendor provides a product that serves the intended purpose. The ortho prosthesis has adjustable neck shaft angles and/or an adjustable head on the neck of the prosthesis. This avoids the need for cutting guides because the prosthesis is matched to the patient's given anatomy.
