The University awarded a contract for DEXA scanner to GE Healthcare, Waukesha, WA, for an estimated $119,000.
This purchase is for DEXA scanner for simultaneous measurement of bone, muscle, and/or body fat.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent.
This is a sole source because no alternative DEXA scanner offers 1) software with unique ability to quantify visceral adiposity without computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and 2) support for excessively obese patients. This sole right is protected by United States Patent # 7,196,332 B2.

A public hearing will be held at which interested parties may testify for or against
the sole source determination as described in this notice. The purpose of the hearing
is to receive information from the public in a reasonable manner. Formal rules of
evidence will not apply.
The hearing panel will produce minutes of the hearing and may record it in order
to aid in the production of the minutes. Interested parties wishing to comment
for or against the determination may do so in writing or in person. If you wish
to testify, prior registration is requested to ensure adequate time is allowed for all parties.
