The University
awarded
a contract for
annual maintenance and service
to
GE Medical Systems Oxford Ltd
for
an estimated $60,000.
This is a contract for annual maintenance and service for a 9.4 Tesla Superconducting Magnet System.
There is only one economically feasible source for item or services because the services to be provided require an expertise that is available only from the recommended firm. The equipment to be covered by the maintenance agreement is a one-of-a-kind superconducting magnet custom-built by GE Medical Systems and patented by GE. It is the largest magnet ever made by GE and is the most powerful one in the world for human studies. Only GE has the expertise required to provide the proper service and maintenance of the magnet.
