The University awarded a contract for Guidewires, sheaths, and vascular closure devices.
Guidewires, sheaths, and vascular closure devices are used in cardiovascular procedures or endovascular surgeries requiring a catheterization.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Guidewires that are used to access target vessels, cross lesions, and deliver definitive interventional therapy. The sheath provides a valve for the guidewires to help reduce the risk of an air embolism and bleedback. Vascular closure devices are used to achieve hemostasis of the small hole in the artery after a cardiovascular procedure or endovascular surgery requiring a catheterization.
