The University awarded a contract for Cardiac defibrillators, pacing leads, & electrodes.
These products provide diagnosis and treatment for disorders that affect the heart's electrical system and cause rhythm problems.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The cardiac rhythm management (CRM) devices from Saint Jude Medical are designed to improve the surgical outcomes and lives of patients suffering from arrhythmias and or heart failure. Without these CRM devices, the hospital would not be able to provide the best care to its patients.
