The University awarded a contract for ABI 3500XL genetic analyzer .
Purchase of an ABI 3500XL genetic analyzer to replace an older model which will no longer be supported after December 2018. The instrument will perform the following testing for patients at University of Illinois Hospital: Microsatellite Instability Testing, Bone Marrow Engraftment analysis, KRAS mutation assay, BRAF V600E mutation, EGFR Mutation, B and T cell clonality, HIV genotyping drug resistance, and others.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The current instrument will no longer be supported after December 2018 and will no longer be able to provide the above mentioned testing in house. Specimens would need to be sent out at a significant cost of money and time. It will take a significant time to validate testing on the new instrument and this purchase should be completed well before support ends on the current platform.
