The University awarded a contract for Cepheid GeneXpert supplies.
Supplies needed for the operation of the Cepheid GeneXpert in the Pathology Laboratories? Microbiology Lab. This is used for the detection of MRSA, C.Diff, and Group Strep A&B in our University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences (UIHHSS) patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The laboratory must purchase the proprietary supplies to perform the tests on the instrumentation that we own, or send out testing to other laboratories at a significant cost of money and time. These are tests which require a rapid identification.
