The University awarded a contract for patented and specialty implants and supplies.
Medtronic Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: stents, guidewires, and catheters used in Cath Lab and in heart surgeries. Medtronic Coronary Diagnosic Products: stents, guidewires, balloons and catheters. Medtronic Spine Products: screws, plates, bits, burs, and Infuse used in spinal surgery. Medtronic Peripheral Interventional Products: catheters and stents used in interventional procedures. Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Management: pacemakers and defibrillators.Medtronic Perfusion Equipment and disposables: cannula, catheters, and adapters. Medtronic Synthetic Bone: Mastergraft ?biologic bone products. Medtronic Kyphon: Kyphoplasty ? balloon and cement used in spinal procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Medtronic USA implants and supplies have to do with direct patient care. Without access to supplies, the hospital would not be able to offer surgical procedures and care, which in turn would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the hospital.
