The University awarded a contract for proprietary flow cytometer supplies.
Flow Cytometry is used to diagnose blood and bone marrow cancers (acute and chronic leukemia and lymphoma) as well as determine levels present post treatment in our Hospital patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Flow Cytometry is an important part of diagnosis and treatment for the University of Illinois Hospital?s oncology patients, and for an institution of this size is expected by physicians, pathologists, and other care givers. If the testing were sent to other laboratories, turnaround time and cost would be greatly increased.
