The University awarded a contract for blood culture testing supplies.
Purchase supplies for use in performing blood culture testing for University of Illinois Hospital patients. Blood cultures test for infections in the blood caused by bacteria and fungi that can lead to serious conditions such as sepsis.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for contracts with a foreign entity for research or educational activities, where the foreign entity does not maintain an office in the United States or the foreign entity is the sole source of the service or product. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(9)) The University of Illinois Hospital?s volume of blood culture testing is rising significantly over years past, and that trend is expected to continue in the face of sepsis testing protocols.
