The University awarded a contract for Sun Nuclear 4D Dosimetry System to Sun Nuclear Corporation, Melbourne, FL, for an estimated $89,400.
Purchase of a 4D measurement for Radiation Oncology treatment is required to assure that the correct dose is given to the patient. The Sun Nuclear's ArcCHECK® device with its associated software has the ability to discover actual delivery errors and help identify the souce of these errors. ArcCHECK® and its associated software also is able to show how these errors will affect the delivered dose of radiation within the patient. With this information, physicists can tie errors to the source, decide whether corrective action is needed and if so make the necessary adjustments to ensure each patient treatment can be delivered as prescribed.
The marketplace was assessed via networking and extensive research involvement and the Physics Group concluded that only the ArcCHECK® device and it's proprietary software have the 4D specifications that is essential for proper patient care.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent.
