The University awarded a contract for Purchase a FibroScan 502 Touch with M +XL+ Probe. to Sandhill Scientific, Highlands Ranch, CO, for $131,600.
Purchase the Sandhill Scientific FibroScan 502 Touch with M +XL+ Probe. This patented FibroScan device is used in the clinical management of patients with liver disease by assessing liver shear wave speed and equivalent stiffness at 50 Hz in a rapid, simple, non-invasive and totally painless way.The FibroScan is the only non invasive technology current approved by FDA to rule out, and/or rule in, and/or determine severity of chirrohis of the liver.
Currently, this technology can be applied to virtually all of the patients seen in liver clinic, obviating the need for invasive testing (liver biopsy) or imaging studies, avoiding unnecessary radiation and financial outlays for the patient and the institution.
The FibroScan device includes a senstive ultrasound sensor at the frequency of 2.5 MHz that has been designed to enhance a deeper signal penetration on patients with obesity. On April 16, 2013 the FDA gave 510(k) clearance for Echosens' FibroScan device to be marketed by Sandhill Scientifc. No other vendor has these specifications.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent.
