The University awarded a contract for MyoSure and Aquilex system supplies.
Hologic, Incorporated offers supplies for their MyoSure and Aquilex system that is utilized in the University of Illinois Hospital for the removal of uterine fibroids. The MyoSure tissue removal wand oscillates back and forth and shaves off fibroids without having to remove or even cut the uterus. Suction is applied to the proximal end of the inner tube to draw tissue into the side window and to remove resected tissue through the inner tube. MyoSure tissue removal system is designed to allow the doctor to remove any growths in the uterus without harming the uterine lining. This is especially important if the patient wants to have children in the future. Unlike other procedures (Myomectomy and Hysterectomy), cutting into the patient would be required.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Hologic?s supplies have to do with direct patient care. Without the Hologic supplies, the Hospital would not be able to offer this procedure to remove uterine that in turn would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
