The University awarded a contract for SuperCool Probe for Jeol ECZ 400 to JEOL, Peabody, MA, for an estimated $151,400.
The requested purchase of the liquid-nitrogen cooled probe will address important needs that are quintessential to the NMR spectroscopy part of our entire operation. Importantly, the new probe will also enable the analysis of the mass-limited samples which we frequently encounter but that currently are impossible be analyzed due to the current sensitivity limitations of the existing probe. The consequence of not obtaining a cryoprobe will be inability to obtain NMR spectroscopic data essential to our work in a timely fashion as well as inability to analyse the natural products samples which frequently are limited and yield. As yield is typically unpredictable, this also means that the work involved in obtaining these samples will be lost.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
