The University awarded a contract for AcuPac Advanced.
AcuPac Advanced is a refined alternative to autograft, with the additional benefit of demineralized cortical fibers. It is a natural bone void-filler surgeons can use to promote rapid, complete bone regeneration. AcuPac Advnaced also provides improved handling and osteoinductive payload.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Acuity Surgical allograft products (AcuPac) are used in direct patient care, specifically neuro-spinal surgical procedures. Without access to these supplies, the Hospital would not be able to offer these procedures. This would drive patients elsewhere, resulting in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
