The University awarded a contract for Advisory Board membership.
Dues for membership in the Advisory Board Company that allows the Hospital to use the Surgical Profitability Compass; a web-based analytic platform used by the Hospital?s Perioperative Services department to analyze operational and financial metrics together. The platform is used to compare supply and implant utilization by surgeon to improve standardization of items used. The platform has benchmarking tools to compare not only supply costs but operational metrics across hospitals nationally. These benchmarks help in improving the quality of care provided in Perioperative Services. An example of this is benchmarking our surgical case lengths to other academic medical centers. By using this benchmark we can track any procedures that have outlier lengths and investigate the cause. By improving operational efficiencies during the surgical procedure, the case lengths could be reduced and the time the patient is under anesthesia can be reduced.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for membership in professional, academic, research, or athletic organizations on behalf of a public institution of higher education, an employee of a public institution of higher education, or a student at a public institution of higher education. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(1)) By improving operational efficiencies during the surgical procedure, the case lengths could be reduced and the time the patient is under anesthesia can be reduced. The lesser amount of time a patient is under anesthesia the lesser the risk of complications.
