The University awarded a contract for medical scribes.
ScribeAmerica services will provide medical scribes that will dictate directly into the patient?s medical record by providing these services on behalf of the physician. Medical scribes will interact with the patient during the dictation process. This will give the physician additional time to spend on the patient and provide better care during the examination.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) It is necessary to provide the highest level of care to the patients within UI Health and the lack of medical scribes limits our ability to provide such care as the physician will have to continue using their valuable time on documentation instead of on patient care functions.
