The University awarded a contract for Steris Amsco Steam Sterilizers.
Steris Amsco steam sterilizers are essential part of the decontamination and sterilization process performed by sterile processing department (SPD) in healthcare facilities.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The steam sterilizers should be replaced due to a combination of years of service with heavy usage and excessive downtime/repairs. The existing steam sterilizers had exceeded the useful life based on high volume usage. The Surgery Annex steam sterilizer is 18 years old and the sterile processing steam sterilizers are 12 and 15 years old.
