The University awarded a contract for service to ASP of Sterrad and Evotech units to Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. dba Advanced Sterilization Products, Irvine, CA, for an estimated $256,000.
Service and maintenance contract to Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP)for four Sterrad Â®System low temperature hydrogen peroxide terminal sterilizers and for two Evotech ECR high level disinfecting automated endoscope cleaning units. To ensure all six devices meets original MDM (Medical Device Manufacturer) specifications for maintenance and enhancements as required by government regulatory bodies such as OSHA and FDA a contract is critical.
ASP does not authorize customers or third party repair entities to service these sterilization units,including the loading or reloading of software.
ASP servicing includes all mandatory (OSHA or FDA related)and non-mandatory product system improvements (technical bulletins, TBâs) are included in your ASP Preferred Service Agreements. Also any software upgrades that are part of a TB will also be included in your service agreement.UIC Hospital to maximize utilization of these critical units used in surgery has depended upon ASP's Preferred Service â 24/7/365 with unlimited preventive maintenance (PMs) and all covered corrective maintenance (CMs).
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.

We will hold a public hearing at the date, time and location specified below, if we
receive a request to testify regarding the sole source determination. We will also
hold a hearing if any vendor submits a signed statement showing the capability to
provide the stated supplies/services at or below the amount indicated.
The public hearing allows any interested party the opportunity to testify for or against
the sole source determination as described in this notice. The purpose of the hearing
is to receive information from the public in a reasonable manner. Formal rules of evidence
will not apply. The hearing officer will produce minutes of the hearing and may record
it in order to aid in the production of the minutes. After conclusion of the hearing we
will decide whether the sole source determination was appropriate.
We must receive any request to testify and any vendor statement no later than the
registration date and time indicated below. If we do not receive a timely request or statement, we will not hold
the hearing. We reserve the right to cancel the procurement prior to any scheduled hearing.
