The University awarded a contract for Gattex injections.
Gattex injection for bowel surgery patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) For the continuum of care for the UI Health bowel surgery patients. Gattex is a GLP-2 analog for patients with Short Bowel Syndrome. Gattex improves intestinal absorption of nutrients for SBS patients, and allows them to be less dependent on Parenteral support (IV nutrition). Gattex is FDA approved, under patent, and only available from ASD.
