The University awarded a contract for Beckman Coulter 's Chemistry Automation Line to Beckman Coulter Inc., Indianapolis, IN, for an estimated $1,312,500.
Purchase from Beckman Coulter Inc. their clinical chemistry and immunochemistry reagents and testing supplies necessary for the operation of existing DXC and DXI instruments on the Chemistry Automation Line.
Beckman Coulter is the sole manufacturer of reagents, supplies and test kits that are used for testing in conjunction with the Beckman equipment purchased in FY04 and other equipment upgraded in 2011. This system was only designed to use specific reagents manufactured and sold solely by Beckman Coulter, and will not provide accurate and validated clinical test results for patients if other reagents are used. The existing equipment is valued at more than $1,325,010.
Beckman Coulter is the sole provider of the reagents needed to operate the instrumentation correctly, and assure accurate testing results.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the item or service is copyrighted or patented and is not available except from the holder of the copyright or patent.
