This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which
public health or safety was threatened
This purchase is exempt from sealed bid procedures because it falls under Section 526.2030, of the Illinois Procurement Rules, Emergency Procurement. The items will be utilized to close holes in the heart chambers of 4 patients scheduled in the Medical Center on November 27, 2006. In addition, this is the only device approved by the FDA for use in repairing holes between chambers in the heart.
