The University awarded a contract for registered nursing and technicians.
Walker Healthcare will provide registered Nursing and technicians across many specialties such as catheterization laboratory, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room, Mammography, Ultrasound, Magnetic resonance imaging, Interventional Radiology, etc. These positions will be responsible for providing clinical care or conducting testing to patients at their assigned units.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) It is necessary to provide the highest level of care to the patients within UI Health and the lack of this position limits our ability to provide such care. Without access to these services the Hospital would not be able to offer testing and patient care that in turn would drive patients else where and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
