The University awarded a contract for laboratory services to The University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri for an estimated $105,000.
This purchase is for diagnostic laboratory services for the detection of helicobacter in rodents.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the the University of Missouri is the only diagnostic laboratory commercially performing helicobacter PCR, which identifies the 5 species of helicobacter bacteria: Helicobacter bills, H. hepaticus, H. rodentium, H. trogontum, and H. typhlonius. This is important because the Animal Care Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has embarked on a program to eliminate helicobacter bacteria from the UIC rodent colonies and it is necessary to identify as many species as possible.
