The University awarded a contract for da Vinci Dual Console System.
Lease of the Intuitive da Vinci Xi Dual Console System used in robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allowing doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility, and control than is possible with conventional techniques. Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery procedures performed through tiny incisions. It is also sometimes used in certain traditional open surgical procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Intuitive da Vinci Xi Dual Console System has to do with direct patient care. Without the Intuitive da Vinci Xi Dual Console System, the Hospital would not offer robotic surgery or robotic-assisted surgery that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
