The University awarded a contract for CAP proficiency testing program.
The College of American Pathologists' (CAP) proficiency testing program is a necessity for the UI Health Pathology Laboratories' accreditation allowing for the provision of diagnostic testing services to patients. The Pathology Laboratories must be inspected by an accrediting body every two years, and must demonstrate testing proficiency every year.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without being able to demonstrate testing proficiency to accrediting bodies, the Pathology Laboratories will not be able to perform diagnostic testing on patients.
