The University awarded a contract for Discovery MI (molecular imaging) PET/CT.
Discovery MI (molecular imaging) PET/CT (positron emission tomography/computed tomography) provides accuracy and the ability to find disease sooner. This is a system that produces quality images with less dose that can easily accommodate the Hospital's needs as it grows. Discovery MI is scalable and gives the flexibility to start with a two-ring detector and gradually upgrade up to a five-ring detector.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Discovery MI is the industrys only PET/CT system that brings together the sensitivity of digital detection with the most innovative reconstruction technology available. The outstanding resolution improves the detection of small lesions. The combined capabilities will allow clinicians to detect smaller lesions and quantify them more accurately. The ability to complete multiple scans in a single visit and reduce the injected dose or the scan time by 50 percent will improve patient experience and increase productivity.
