The University awarded a contract for implantable surgical mesh and supplies.
WL Gore provides implantable surgical mesh and supplies, such as Bioabsorbable Seam Guard Dual Mesh Plus biomaterial Micromesh Plus biomaterial Seam Guard staple line and Specialty Surgical Mesh. These supplies and implants are used in hernia repairs or for large wound closures too big or complex to close with traditional stitches during surgical procedures.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) These surgical meshes and supplies are necessary to provide the highest level of care to the patients at the Hospital. The lack of these supplies will limit our ability to offer certain surgical procedures that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
