The University awarded a contract for Fluidigm Juno system, reagents and service plan to Fluidigm Inc., San Franscisco, CA, for an estimated $126,205.
Purchase from Fluidigm Inc. their Juno System so that this accessory component can be added to the exisiting Fluidigm equipment.

Juno is a microfluidic system for capturing single cells and isolating very small amounts of material, specifically picorgams of nucleic acids, in tenths of microliter volumes. The existing system facilitates capture of individual cells on C1 module, and processing them for either transcriptional or genetic profiling followed by data acquisition on BioMark HD. The system that we currently have lays down a sound technological foundation, but is not flexible enough, in that it can only process samples for microfluidic arrays in a single format of 96x96 (samples x tests) and does not have flexibilty of all available genotyping formats and has no digital end-point PCR capability. The Juno system is a universal sample prep system, in that it can process samples for all genotyping formats (96x96, 48x48, 129x24 and FlexSix) and for digital endpoint PCR assays, followed by data acquisition in the BioMark HD. Of additional importance is that Juno system will add a unique capability to automatically process large number of samples for targeted sequence capture and library preparation followed by Next Generation Sequncing. As of now, targeted sequence capture for sequencing can only be done manually. In summary the Juno system would allow for automation and optimization of the processes, speed up our operations, and facilitate broader array of services. Thus giving us an opportunity to grow our Core Genomics business.

Juno has the ability to perform high-pressure and nanoscale sample loading and thermocycling based sample conversion and amplification using the Fluidigm IFCs for genotyping (96x96, 48x48, 192x24 and FlexSix), and digital end point PCR PCR IFCs (12x765, 48x770 and qdPCF 37K).

Only IFC formats prepared by Juno system are compatable with BioMark HD and C1 modeles of the entire integrated system.

Only Juno has the ability to process very limited amounts of nucleis material derives form small sampes or individual cells. This enables us to work with a minimum sample concentrations, namely picograms of the starting DNA and RNA amouns
