The University awarded a contract for Carto 3 System.
Biosense Webster, Incorporated offers supplies for the Carto 3 System which is a 3-D mapping system with the integration and scalability to help electrophysiologists make optimal treatment decisions. Carto 3 3-D Mapping System is used with specialized catheters in Electrohysiology (EP) Lab for treating patients effectively and safely while mapping and ablating complex arrhythmias during a procedure.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Biosense Webster medical supplies are used in direct patient care. Without access to these specific supplies the hospital would not be able to offer electrophsiology procedures that would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
