The University awarded a contract for maintenance and support for Stealth Station S7 to Medtronic USA, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, for an estimated $124,000.
Maintenance and service support for the Medtronic Stealth Station system. The Stealth Station System is used to assist the surgeon in precise cranial and spine surgeries. The Stealth Station System interfaces with the existing Medtronic inoperative imaging devices and Medtronic's O-arm device. Also the Medtronic tracking technologies have navigation interface capacity for all Medtronic devices in the operating room. The Stealth Station System software controls the streamlined work-flow so that integration with the Imaging camera, microscopes, and audio, visual devices remains operational as well as assist with troubleshooting. As such, the ongoing service and maintenance plan is designed to rapidly resolve equipment problems as they may arise to ensure maximum system uptime.
The university, on information and belief, has concluded that only one vendor can meet its need or can meet the need economically. That vendor is Medtronic USA, Inc. The university has provided detailed justification to support its conclusion as shown on the attached Sole Source Justification Form. Although the university has presented this as a sole source procurement, we are seeking competitive information from firms with the capability of meeting the university's need (even if performed in a manner different from what has been presented) to contact us and provide sufficient information to show the need can be met. If we receive that information, the Chief Procurement Officer will offer a public hearing to consider the matter. Hearing information is described below.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
