The University awarded a contract for physiological monitoring equipment.
Purchase of physiological monitoring equipment with remote monitoring capability for UI Hospital. Physiological monitors provide continuous measurement of key patient parameters such as heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and blood-oxygen saturation. In addition to alerting caregivers to potentially life-threatening changes in a patients condition, constant monitoring of these parameters is used to make decisions about patient management and therapeutic interventions. Replacing monitors currently used in most patient care areas of the Hospital that are over ten years old, as well as additional monitors for the new Outpatient Surgery Center opening in 2022.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The patient monitoring system provided by GE Healthcare will provide updated technology and replacement existing equipment that is at the end of its useful life. Physiological monitoring of patients is an essential component of quality care.
