The University awarded a contract for Dental supplies and customized dental prostheses.
Dental supplies and customized dental prostheses for patients.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Our prosthodontist is the highest revenue-generating provider at the Craniofacial Center. We also just hired another prosthodontist who will be starting September 1, 2021. If we do not get this exemption for dental supplies and dental prostheses we will not be able to treat as many patients. This will have a downstream impact on surgical cases at the UI Health and other ancillary services at the hospital and clinics. Our prosthodontist is a provider that will treat more complex patients that our community providers will not treat. As a state-run institution, we often are the last resort for patients.
