Biologic testing of laboratory animal samples
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The continuation of IDEXX testing for rodent pathogens is essential for the maintaining the UIC animal care and use programs rodent colonies disease free, which is important in minimizing the potential adverse effect of rodent diseases on both the health of the animals and the research data obtained from the animals. Testing is conducted in rodents that are required to go through quarantine prior to entering the UIC rodent colonies. In addition, testing is a key component of the preventative health program, which is used to survey quarterly the existing UIC rodent colonies for infectious agents that may affect animal health and/or research.
