The University awarded a contract for Custom Counters and Cabinetry to Sirona Dental, Inc., Charlotte, NC, for an estimated $175,775.
Sirona Dental is uniquely positioned to provide the highly customizable cabinetry required to accept and operate the new sterilization equipment so we can provide excellent patient care on a continuous basis. They have supplied similar cabinetry to our 3rd floor and that will ensure a continuation & compatibility throughout the college.
Sirona will provide design, installation, and maintenance services for specialized dental equipment, including two counters, several storage areas, clean/dirty sides that will contain the new sterilization equipment. On set of counters/cabinetry need to be customized to enclose 5 thermal disinfectors, their plumbing and chemical disinfecting dispensers. Another counter acts as part of another cabinet where instruments are stored to refill procedure cassettes. Two desk set ups have been customized to hold computers, small dental equipment charging stations, and other sundry items. All of the customized cabinets must be constructed in such a way as to accommodate several different sizes of instrument cassettes, small pieces of dental equipment, as well as drawers of many sizes and shapes to allow for adequate organizational configurations that are specialized for use in a dental school setting. The shelves and drawers must be all be adjusted to fit the size of the item being stored.
Any available off the shelf cabinetry will not fit the current space and will not accommodate the new equipment for sterilization. The necessary fixtures need to be custom made for our specific needs. The vendor offers complimentary design, installation, and can offer their own repairs in a timely manner per manufacturer's warranty.
The university, on information and belief, has concluded that only one vendor can meet its need or can meet the need economically. That vendor is Sirona Dental, Inc. The university has provided detailed justification to support its conclusion as shown on the attached Sole Source Justification Form.
Although the university has presented this as a sole source procurement, we are seeking competitive information from firms with the capability of meeting the university's need (even if performed in a manner different from what has been presented) to contact us and provide sufficient information to show the need can be met. If we receive that information, the Chief Procurement Officer will offer a public hearing to consider the matter. Hearing information is described below.
All sole source hearings under the jurisdiction of the Chief Procurement Officer for Higher Education will be conducted by tele-conference only until the in-person option is reinstated.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.
