The University awarded a contract for a pharmacy automation system.
Pharmacy automation system which interface with pharmacy order entry system and that will count, label and dispense prescription medications.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) We currently have the Parata Max 1 which interfaces with our current pharmacy order entry system (Epic Willow Ambulatory). Due to the age of the Parata Max 1, we are required to upgrade to the Parata Max 2. The Parata Max is the only device in the market that caps the filled vials. The Parata Max 2 has the capability for the machine to calibrate the medications cells. It also has an internal camera which captures the vial content before it caps. These unique functionalities provide an operational and safety advantages for UI Health Ambulatory Pharmacies.
