The University awarded a contract for surgical blood recovery services.
Autotransfusion, cell salvage, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments to support surgical cases. Backup agency staff when in-house staff cannot support all cases at UI Health.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Proper staffing for blood recovery cardiac and transplant cases, as well as PRP case coverage in the operating room. We would need to postpone or cancel patient care without this additional coverage.
