The University awarded a contract for Haemonetics vascular closure system.
The Haemonetics vascular closure system is designed for "small-bore" femoral arterial and venous closure, generally used in interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular procedures. The Haemonetics vascular closure system is designed for "mid-bore" multi-access femoral venous closure generally used in electrophysiology procedures and is a closure device for use following cardiac ablation procedures requiring two or more access sites within the same limb. Both devices include collapsible disc technology and a resorbable collagen patch to achieve hemostasis.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Haemonetics Corporation disposable supplies have to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these specific supplies the Hospital would not be able to offer patient care that in turn would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
