The University awarded a contract for Neuro Omega system.
The Neuro Omega system is used for both clinical MER (micro electrode recording) and for advanced clinical research in deep brain stimulation (DBS) and epilepsy surgeries. With its recording and stimulation features from single and multi-unit brain cells, the system helps in identifying the ideal region of interest in the brain to implant the lead (DBS electrode) which is then programmed by a neurologist afterwards to treat the patients symptoms.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Neuro Omega system offers the highest performance, quality, and clinical efficacy in the market. Moreover, the system uses the HaGuide algorithm, a real-time software solution designed to accurately detect the different regions of the brain, demarcating the entrance and exit boundaries using microelectrode recording (MER) during surgery.
