The University awarded a contract for catering services for a venue event on October 22..
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which
the need for services to protect or further University interests was immediate and use of other competitive source selection procedures under the Illinois Procurement Code could not have been accomplished without significant risk of causing disadvantages to the University.
The use of competitive source selection procedures under the Procurement Code could not be accomplished as the availability and pricing from this caterer's offer was about to expire.
Over the past eight years, the Walter Payton Center Guild has raised over $ 3,5 million in support of the Walter Payton Liver Center which provides treatment and research for severe liver diseases. Each year the Guild hosts a high profile gala event featuring a silent auction and participation by former Chicago Bears players and Chicago Bears management. Over 600 wealthy donors and prospects attend. The gala will be held in the main hall of Union Station, located in Downtown Chicago. Union Station qualifies five exclusive caterers for events within their facility. The Walter Payton Center Guild sent each of the five Caterers a request to price the event. Only two caterers responded. Food for Thought was selected by a Guild evaluation committee on the basis of lowest price and menu.
