The University awarded a contract for portable chiller rental and service.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was needed to prevent any disruption in University services.
• On Tuesday June 19, 2012 the old Chiller System for the Student Service Auxiliary Building located at 1200 W. Harrison Street, Chicago, Illinois started to fail. University Engineers called Kroeschell, the service provider for this building on-site on June 20, 2012 to assist with the operations of the failing chillers and also to help develop an emergency plan. Between June 19th and June 24th, 2012 the existing chillers were operational. On Saturday June 23, 2012 Kroeschell delivered a portable chiller trailer and began the piping and implementation process to deliver air conditioning to the building. On June 24, 2012 University electricians completed a power feed on the portable trailer making it operational, and security fencing was installed to protect the trailer.
• On June 27, 2012 Purchase order P0646130 was approved in the estimated amount of $ 100,000 for the emergency rental (one month) of a 40 ton portable trailer chiller and the associated labor to tie the temporary chiller into the building chilled water system. The evaluation of the building chiller failure as to repair versus acquisition of a new chiller is ongoing.
