The University awarded a contract for insurance brokers services for stop loss insurance.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was needed to prevent any disruption in University services.
Recently the Federal Government has deemed the University’s CampusCare student self-funded health plan as ACA-compliant only if it removes the current $500,000 lifetime cap on benefits. To do this the University’s CampusCare unit needs protection above $500,000. THe University was informed that the State of Illinois Master Contract (Department of Central Management Services)for insurance brokerage services does not include student health stop loss coverage.
The University has no other insurance brokerage contract in place for student health stop loss insurance and the insurance policy has to be effective for the academic year commencing with the Fall 2015 semester. Insurance carriers will not underwrite a student health policy for a shorter term duration than one year. During the next 12 months UIC CampusCare will be able to issue a competitive RFP for insurance broker services for this type of insurance policy.
