The University awarded a contract for temporary Pediatric Oncology physician services.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was needed to prevent any disruption in University services.
The University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine at Peoria, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology operates a clinic with the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate located in the Children?s Hospital of Illinois. The affiliation agreement between St./ Jude Children?s Research Hospital, Inc. and the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois specifies that the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria provide sufficient physician services to operate the clinic. Over the last two years, over of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology physicians have left the University with another physician to depart later this Fall. On-going recruitment has been unsuccessful, while patient load has not decreased during this period. With the decrease in physician staff, and increase in patients , College Administration believe there is an emergency and a critical need to have temporary physicians in place and acclimated to the clinic to be able to continue to see patients adequately while an RFP is developed and recruitment continues.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria is requesting an emergency purchase of Temporary Physicians for the Department of Pediatrics with Locum Tenens Inc., in the amount of $307,500 to bridge the gap until a new solicitation is issued, evaluated and awarded or a sufficient number of physicians can be recruited.
Locum Tenens Inc. was selected for this emergency purchase. The College of Medicine at Peoria has had previous success with Locum Tenens in both the Department of Medicine and Psychiatry in obtaining temporary physician services. This vendor was also the primary awardee for RFP IJW005 for UIC Rockford. Locum Tenens, Inc. offers a lower cost than other vendors the College of Medicine have looked at. This vendor has the resources to provide multiple needed pediatric physicians in this highly specialized discipline of Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology.
