The University awarded a contract for Illumina's NextSeq 500 System .
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which items available on the spot market or at discounted prices were available for a limited time such that sound business judgment mandated a purchase immediately to take advantage of the availability and price.
This quick purchase request is based upon a negotiated discounted price for a limited time only. The vendor?s fiscal year end is September 30, 2016 and the offer expires on 9/29/2016. Thereafter, the list price excluding a discount of $ 75,000 is available.
The College of Medicine Researcher require the NextSeq 500 Sequencer from Illumina, Inc. for ongoing research. This sequencer produces automated generation of DNA clonal clusters by bridge amplification, sequencing and primary analysis. The unique feature of this machine is that it can produce both medium and high output sequnces. It is like having two sequencers in one machine. The other high output sequencers from Illumina and other companies produce large amount of sequences but the equipment itself, reagents and maintenance costs are too high and my laboratory does not have the need for ultra-high output sequencer.
Without this operational capacity, the federal research goals can not be achieved.
