The University awarded a contract for Keyence BZ-X710 fluorescence microscope.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which items available on the spot market or at discounted prices were available for a limited time such that sound business judgment mandated a purchase immediately to take advantage of the availability and price.
This quick purchase request is based upon a negotiated discounted price for a limited time only. The vendor?s offer with the discounted amount will expire on 12/23/2016. Therefore, we request to purchase at the discounted price of $ 123,943.50 and save $ 16,306.50 from this quick purchase.
The College of Pharmacy Researcher will utilize the Keyence BZ-X710 fluorescence phase-contrast microscope as it is essential to the campus wide drug discovery effort. It is the only highly resolution, highly-versatile, and fully automated instrument in the market that is equipped with a high sensitive CCD camera which enables low-noise imaging of weak fluorescent signals and minimizes photobleaching by reducing the intensity of excitation light required for capturing a clear image.
The requested microscope system is a fully automated all-in-one digital microscope system that houses up to 6 high-quality lenses, 4 filter cubes in automated turrets, and a software platform which is specifically integrated to operate with the selected hardware. The compact, fully-enclosed design enables it to become its own built-in dark room, while all objectives and filters are controlled through the software. The unit uses a 14-bit monochrome CCD that is also able to take 24-bit true color images. The microscope is capable of stitching up to a 50,000x 50,000 pixel images in a combination of bright field, phase contrast, and/or fluorescence imaging modes (8 times faster than conventional methods). Stitched images of whole cross-sections or entire wells can be used within the "Navigation Window" to move the automated XY stage with precision to various areas of interest at higher magnifications (including the 100x oil lens).
Sound business judgment has concluded that an immediate purchase to take advantage of the availability and price is needed. The first come offer is $ 123,943.50 and the original manufacturer list price will be $ 140,150 if the 12/23/2016 offer expiration is not accepted.
