The University awarded a contract for scoring balloons used in cardiovascular procedures.
This purchase is for the Scoreflex NC scoring balloon used in cardiovascular procedures. The price is same as last year, and this agreement will be a consignment so, we don't have to stock the supplies and let it expire if not used. We will only be ordering what we need for a particular surgery. This is price savings, as it will not be in the inventory.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Without this scoring balloon, the surgeons will not be able to perform and provide the proper level of care for patients. In addition the patients will go elsewhere for there care and the University will be losing revenue.
