The University awarded a contract for transportable medical ventilator.
The Transportable Medical Ventilator will be used in the Department of Emergency Medical Services for the transporting of distress patients. The Z Vent is a portable ventilator that can be used for all types of transport needs including, ground ambulances, critical care transports, and air transports.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The portable respirator will be used during the transporting of patients. The Respiratory Department looked at 3 vendors. All 3 have proprietary circuits but 2 of the 3 had external flow sensors which could be problematic. The Zoll ventilator is easier to use, smaller than one of the other two which benefits us due to elevator space restrictions.
