The University awarded a contract for mass photometry instrument.
Mass photometry (MP) is a revolutionary new way to analyze molecules. This instrument enables the accurate mass measurement of single molecules in solution, in their native state and without the need for labels.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) Mass photometry (MP) is a revolutionary new way to analyze molecules. It enables the accurate mass measurement of single molecules in solution, in their native state and without the need for labels. This approach opens up new possibilities for bioanalytics and research into the functions of biomolecules. MP measurements provide the mass distribution and relative concentrations of all species in a sample. The Refeyn TwoMP -benchtop mass photometer can detect molecules between 30 kDa and 5 MDa using sample concentration ranges 100 pM to 100 nM. This capability will provide significant values to all UIC researchers. This technique can measure molecular weights and mass distribution with low sample consumption within a short period of measurement time, and TwoMP can provide all of these required. Each sample measurement of the TwoMP takes only 5-10 minutes and requires only 5-7 uL sample volume of 100 pM to 100 nM sample concentration range.
